Tuesdays. I hate Tuesdays. Tuesdays are staff meeting days. Always swamped between the days of Sunday and
Thursday— the meat of the stress Tuesday and Wednesday—I typically just head
straight to the unit instead of going home first. Hopefully I remember to pack some food so I don’t
starve.
That room, the room we all wait in
for the 6pm meetings to start, slowly fills up and as it does, it gets noisier
and noisier by the second to where you’re about to punch somebody in the face
if they talk to you. Thank God when we
remember to bring our headphones.
Today was worse than usually. Everyone
seemed to be there and they all succeeded in being annoying. Headphones.
I quickly hit whatever on my iTunes just needing something to drown out
the distractions all around.

Marley with Manley and Seaga at Peace Concert (One Love Peace Concert, Jamaica, 1978) |
Don’t
worry about a thing,
‘Cause
every little thing is gonna be alright.
Singin,
don’t worry about a thing,
‘Cause
every little thing is gonna be alright.
Thanks Bob. How can I not freaking worry when nobody will
shut up and I have a million things to do?!
But almost unconsciously I started to, well,
not worry as much. Bob Marley was
successfully drowning out the voices around me; however, it brought me back to
the first car ride I took with my mom and sisters to Florida State. We were going to orientation while I was
still in my last year of high school. I
was nervous as shit.

Everyone always
tells you to ‘not be nervous’ and that “everything will be fine!” Do these cliché statements ever really help
ease the nerves? No. But “Three Little Birds” did.
It came on a
random radio station while driving down I-10 and we sat in silence for a few
seconds. My littlest sister with the
biggest personality began to sing along to Bob’s words and one by one we were
all until the end when we started laughing and singing everything that came on
the radio together therein after.
There is one good thing about music. It does
in whatever situation, unite us.

"So much and never enough," something we all feel, especially in college. I love that it's something that we can all relate to, even if it isn't necessarily about school work. The title of this blog can give you a lot to work with when adding on and creating more posts, which I immediately felt and appreciated. But, at first glance of the site, my eyes were going in all directions. I feel that between the different colored font, sizes of words, and background, it was too busy that I might've missed the main tone or feeling you wanted to convey in your blog. Maybe the business of the blog's content is intended to relate to how "busy" your schedule is, but I was still unable to relate the background image with any of the words. What I did appreciate though, was the style of writing. I feel as if the spacing and the different sizing in words conveyed a good sense of how you were feeling. You highlighted words such as "stress" and "nerves" for the reader, that I was able to even feel a little bit of that stress, and any writing that makes you emotionally involved is a success. I personally would've spoken more about what was on your mind, the cause of all this stress. It would've been cool to list all of the things you had to do instead of being at that meeting. I'm not sure how, but towards the end the blog became all about music, so I was confused as to what you wanted the theme to be. The photo of the "Tallahassee" sign also didn't do it for me in terms of making much of an effect, but I did however like the photo of the Bob Marley concert. Having the rest of your photos tie back to music relating to how you're feeling could be a cool thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you played with the text in this post. The colors, the sizes, bolding, italicizing. It makes the post so much more fun to read, you can see what’s ahead, the words jump out at you but you have to read through to know what they mean. To understand the context. This is an excellent way of drawing in the reader and getting them interested enough to read through to the end of the piece. The usage of the photos is interesting, though I felt that the photo with Bob Marley was a little out of place and unnecessary. You could have easily forgone this photo entirely and I think it would have kept the flow of the post a little neater and tighter. I like the photo of the road signs though because you are discussing a road trip that you went on. I’m a little confused about the text underneath the photo, in the red. I can’t really read it unless I look hard and it doesn’t seem to have any relevance to the casual reader. I’m sure it means something but I am unable to discern what. I thought it might have been some sort of hyperlink, since it was underlined and a completely different color from the rest of the posts palette. However, when it turned out not to be one I was just more confused and taking the time to try and figure it out really took me out of the post and I actually had to reread to remember where I was and what was going on. I like the overall message of the post as well, that while there are bad times and nerves can get the best of us, bad days might get us down, there is this thing called music that can unite and inspire us and can help turn a bad day around if it comes at the right moment. That’s a beautiful thought.
